    Metallothioneins have a high content of cysteine residues that bind various heavy metals; these proteins are transcriptionally regulated by both heavy metals and glucocorticoids.

Results found that MT1M is downregulated in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tumors, and it suppressed HCC tumorigenesis possibly by inducing cell cycle arrest, enhancing apoptosis and inhibiting cell migration and invasion.
