    CUSABIO transfected the expression vector which inserted the recombinant DNA into the E.coli, cultured the cells, and then induced the transcription and translation of the cloned vector. The N-terminal 10xHis tag and C-terminal Myc tag sequence was appended to the gene coding for the E.coli of the Rat Artn protein to form the recombinant DNA. The recombinant Rat Artn was expressed as N-terminal 10xHis-tagged and C-terminal Myc-tagged fusion. The purity of the protein is greater than 85% assayed by SDS-PAGE. It has an apparent molecular weight of approximately 19 kDa.

    Artemin (ARTN) is a member of the glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) family ligands, which encompasses family members, GDNF, neurturin and persephin. ARTN is also referred to as Enovin or Neublastin, and bears structural characteristics of the TGF-β superfamily. ARTN binds preferentially to receptor GFRα3, coupled to a receptor tyrosine kinase RET, forming a signalling complex for the regulation of intracellular pathways that affect diverse outcomes of nervous system development and homoeostasis. Further, ARTN also interacts with heparan sulphate proteoglycan syndecan-3 and mediates non-RET signalling via activation of Src kinases. In addition, expression data in Oncomine indicate that high artemin expression is significantly associated with residual disease after chemotherapy, metastasis, relapse and death.
